Visionaries Behind Life-Saving Algorithms, Global Supply Chains, Cutting-Edge Analytics and more to be Honored in October
BALTIMORE, MD, September 26, 2024 – From reshaping healthcare delivery to optimizing global supply chains, developing life-saving algorithms and numerous other significant contributions, 12 pioneers in operations research and analytics are set to receive one of the highest honors in the field – being named an INFORMS Fellow. INFORMS, the premier international association for the decision and data sciences, proudly announces its 2024 class of Fellows – leaders whose innovative contributions have transformed industries, improved lives worldwide and significantly advanced INFORMS’ fields of interests. These luminaries will be celebrated at the 2024 INFORMS Annual Meeting, held October 20-23, in Seattle, Washington.
“Our 2024 Fellows represent the pinnacle of excellence in operations research and analytics,” says Elena Gerstmann, executive director of INFORMS. “Their visionary work has advanced our field and contributed in countless ways to a better world through smarter decisions. We are proud to recognize their extraordinary contributions and look forward to celebrating their achievements at our Annual Meeting in Seattle.”
The 2024 INFORMS Class of Fellows
- Russell R. Barton, CAP, of Pennsylvania State University is being honored for contributions at the interface of operations research and statistics; for distinguished service to INFORMS, the Simulation Society, and Quality, Reliability and Statistics Section; and for encouraging excellence in practice through university and industrial education.
- Amy M. Cohn of the University of Michigan is being honored for contributions to improving healthcare delivery; providing experiential learning opportunities in healthcare to operations research students; and for her leadership and service to INFORMS and the profession.
- Michael F. Gorman of the University of Dayton is being honored for contributions to practice and education in operations research and analytics, and service to INFORMS.
- Alok Gupta of the University of Minnesota is being honored for contributions to information systems research in the application of analytics and decision science impacting scholarship and practice, and for dedicated service and leadership in the Management Information Systems (MIS) community.
- Teck-Hua Ho of Nanyang Technological University, Singapore, is being honored for contributions to the fields of behavioral science, marketing and operations management, and service to the fields of operations research, management science and artificial intelligence.
- Philip M. Kaminsky of Amazon and the University of California, Berkeley, is being honored for academic leadership and contributions to research, education and practice of supply chain management and logistics in multiple application domains.
- Hani S. Mahmassani of Northwestern University is being honored for contributions to transportation science, network modeling and applications to intelligent transportation systems management, and for professional and editorial leadership.
- Alexandra M. Newman of Colorado School of Mines is being honored for contributions to the practice of optimization in the mining, steel manufacturing, power systems and natural resource industries; for operations research education; and for service to INFORMS and the profession.
- Celso C. Ribeiro of the Universidade Federal Fluminense is being honored for contributions to algorithmic research in metaheuristics and solution methods in sport scheduling and their applications; for leadership in developing operations research internationally; and for professional service.
- M. Grazia Speranza of the University of Brescia is being honored for contributions to mixed-integer programming applied to transportation and logistics, and for academic leadership and service to the international operations research and scientific societies.
- David L. Woodruff of the University of California, Davis, is being honored for contributions to the theory and practice of stochastic optimization, the development of high-quality open source software and service to the operations research community.
- Shuzhong Zhang of the University of Minnesota is being honored for contributions to the theory and practice of continuous optimization, including applications in operations research, management sciences, economics, signal processing and bioinformatics.
