According to a study conducted by Rahul Telang of Carnegie Mellon University and Rajiv Garg of the University of Texas, it's the quality, not the quantity, of your online professional connections that will help with a successful job search. Their study, based on a survey of 424 jobseekers, was published in Management Science, a journal of the Institute for Operations Research and the Management Sciences (INFORMS).

Because that counts for absolutely nothing once you get yourself into a group, new research says. A study, published in the INFORMS journal Management Science, found that even individuals with a proven track record of honest behavior are prone to the potential for negative influences present in a group dynamic, especially when money is at stake.

A new algorithm designed by a group of Lehigh University engineering students and their professors has simplified the process of assigning inmates to correctional facilities. The new system not only is expected to save the prison system nearly $3 million a year but also has landed the Lehigh team in contention for the Daniel H. Wagner Prize for Excellence in Operations Research, awarded each year by INFORMS, the leading international association for analytics and operations research professionals.

Your hospitality brand is under attack online from all sides it seems.  Some reviews are thoughtful but most are not, and you’re worried that your brand will suffer, and your business. According to some new research, the one thing you can do that may make all the difference is to take the time to respond.  According to a forthcoming study in the INFORMS journal Marketing Science, a leading academic marketing journal, management responses can not only lead to higher ratings for businesses, but also more substantive reviews even if they aren’t all positive.

Mpox is spreading across several African countries. The World Health Organization declared mpox a “public health emergency of international concern.” The Democratic Republic of Congo has been hardest hit, though Burundi has also seen a recent surge of cases. To date this year, 36,000 suspected cases have been reported, with more than one-half among children younger than 15 years old. In Burundi alone, two-thirds of the recent cases have been in those younger than 19.

The supply chain for many small parcel shipping companies is typically long. Products are often made in distant lands, travel on oceans and waterways, arrive at ports, are then transported to warehouses, from where a third-party logistics provider delivers the product to its intended destination. In a stable world, shippers and customers alike can expect a product to be delivered within the promised time window. However, in a world facing high levels of uncertainty caused by war, pandemic, political instability, raw material shortages, freak accidents (recall the regional and national impact of the bridge collapse in the Port of Baltimore caused by a container ship), and weather, the shipper must work overtime to ensure customer expectations are met at no additional cost, despite these uncertainties.
